Mid-Missouri Friends of Churchill Museum Hosting Celebration for Royal Baby

Central Missourians interested  in the upcoming birth of the royal baby to parents Prince William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are invited to a celebration complete with refreshments, entertainment and presentations at 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 7, at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin Aldermanbury on the campus of Westminster College.

“We were so thrilled with the huge turnout we had for the Mid-Missouri Friends of the National Churchill Museum celebration of the royal wedding,” says Mary Harrison, chair of the committee for the event.  “We hope all of them will return and bring their friends for this wonderful celebration of the royal birth.”

The celebration has a child theme and will include a fashion show with Mid-Missouri children modeling children’s clothes from the Fulton Café gift shop.  KOMU meteorologist Rosie Newberry will emcee this part of the program.

Attendees will enjoy games such as guessing the eight, name and birth date of the royal baby and trying to match the pictures of the Friends’ board members with their baby pictures.

Marlene Railton and other area singers will entertain and an auction will be held, including items such as a 1918 Dorothy Ellen doll owned by former board member Helen Danuser, a tea party for ten hosted by Friends’ board members, two children’s gift baskets and a bicycle with training wheels.

“I had purchased the Dorothy Ellen doll at Helen Danuser’s estate sale,” says Harrison.

She was so active over the years in supporting and working on behalf of the National Churchill Museum, I thought it only fitting that her doll would be used to benefit the Museum that she spent so many hours helping to make into the wonderful exhibition it is today.

The event is hosted by the Mid-Missouri Friends of the National Churchill Museum and women attending are encouraged to wear hats as they did at the Friends Royal Wedding event.

A free will offering will take place as well with all proceeds going.to redo the tuckpointing at the church.

Committee members planning the event include Mary Harrison, chair; Pat O’Rourke, Judy Schaneman, Judy Schwartz and Sarah Squires-Weber.

The Mid-Missouri Friends is a local organization formed with the purpose of fostering interest, promoting and raising funds for the National Churchill Museum and its exhibits.
