Men’s Basketball Extends Streak To 4 With Win Over Eureka, 3-0 In Conference

The Westminster men’s basketball team extends their winning streak to four games with the 83-65 win over Eureka College Tuesday evening. The Westminster Blue Jays improve their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to 3-0.

Six minutes into the game, the Blue Jays held the 14-10 lead over the Eureka Red Devils, with senior Joe James holding 12 of the 14 points. The Blue Jays then blasted a 16-1 run to take a 19 point lead, 30-11. They held the lead in the last seven minutes of the first half and headed into halftime up 39-21. James netted 18 points in the first half after going 7-9 from the field, including 2-2 from the three-point line.

With 7:47 left in the game, the Blue Jays ended their 15-3 run, taking a 27 point lead, the largest lead of the game (68-41). The Red Devils chipped away at the lead and brought the game within 20 points, but the Blue Jays prevailed with the 83-65 win.

The Blue Jays shot 52.7 % from the field and 57.9 % from the three-point line. James closed out the game with 20 points, and junior Brandon Moore chipped in 12. Moore also dished in four assists. Sophomore Kellen Brondel grabbed a game high of 8 rebounds.

The Blue Jays will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic hosted by Mount Mercy on December 28-29. They will take on Coe at 4:00 p.m. on December 28, followed by the consolation/championship game on December 29.
