Men’s Basketball Drops 2 Over Weekend

The Westminster men’s basketball team dropped two games over the weekend to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and Edgewood College. The Westminster Blue Jays are now 1-3 for the season.

The Blue Jays fell 44-69 to MSOE on Saturday evening. A back-and-forth first half ended with a 5-0 MSOE run and a 26-32 deficit for the Blue Jays.

MSOE came into the second half and jump-started an 8-0 run just one minute in. MSOE gradually increased their lead, ending the game with a Blue Jay 44-69 loss.

The Blue Jays shot 43.8 percent from the three point line. Junior Brandon Moore led the offense with 12 points.

The Blue Jays then headed to Madison, Wisconsin on Sunday to take on Edgewood. Edgewood quickly grabbed the lead of the game, but the Blue Jays kept pace and tied it up twice.

To close out the first half, senior Joe James hit two jumpers to take the Blue Jays’ first lead of the game, 29-28.

The lead changed multiple times in the beginning of the second half, but a 7-0 Edgewood run gave them lead and they ran with it. A quick jump shot by senior Jordan Jones, accompanied with a foul by Edgewood and the made free throw brought the game within four, 55-59.

Edgewood pulled away again, but with 14 seconds left on the clock, junior Verdis Lee Jr. hit a jumper to bring the Blue Jays within four again. The Blue Jays quickly fouled, but Edgewood made both free throws, taking the 65-59 win.

The Blue Jays shot 38.7 percent on the game. Lee Jr. went 7-13 from the field, leading the Blue Jays with 17 points. Moore added 14 points and tallied 8 rebounds.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on December 4th as they head to Mount Pleasant, Iowa for their first conference match up with Iowa Wesleyan. Tip off will be at 8:00 p.m.

I think the Blue Jays are not doing to bad this season, it wasn’t the best of games and they could of done without it but they are still holding it together under the pressure. They will however need to perform much harder if they are wanting to succeed.
