Meet Newly Elected SGA President Emily Thomeczek

Emily Thomeczek ’21 ΚΑΘ was elected President of Westminster’s Student Government Association, or SGA, in January. Read on to learn more about the campus leader.

Hometown: Jefferson City, MO.

Major: Marketing and Business Communications.

Other titles: Residential Advisor, Marquess Hall; Vice President of Programming, Panhellenic Council; President, Alpha Lambda Delta.

On her new position as SGA President: My feelings toward my new position are all feelings of excitement. That also comes with feelings of nervousness at how influential and powerful this position can be. I feel a large responsibility to the student body and to Westminster College, and I look forward to carrying out those responsibilities.

Goals for the upcoming year: My primary goals for the upcoming year are to boost student engagement on campus, foster a better relationship and communication between Administration and students, and ultimately increase student morale on campus.

How Westminster is helping her find her purpose: Westminster is helping me find my purpose by providing me with the numerous opportunities it has to offer. As a sophomore, I have already held several leadership positions on campus. These experiences have shaped who I am as a person and given me the experience to be a leader in all aspects of my life.

Favorite spot on campus: My favorite place on campus is JCI. Many students walk through JCI to get to classes, grab food, or just hang out. I like getting to see everyone that comes through. There is always a familiar face around, and there is a strong sense of community present.

Favorite Westminster memory so far: So far my favorite memory was the 2018 Green Lecture when Bernie Sanders gave his speech. I was fortunate enough to get a seat on the stage directly behind where Bernie sat in Champ Auditorium and got an up-close-and-personal experience with Bernie.

Future plans: As a sophomore, I still have a lot to determine for my future plans. As of now I plan on graduating from Westminster and starting a career while I go to graduate school.

What she does in her free time: In my free time. I can be found spending time with my friends and sorority sisters or taking part in a campus event. I like to catch up on Netflix and craft when I can as well.

A superpower she wishes she had: If I could choose any superpower, I would choose the ability to fly. This way I could get to class in no time and would never have to worry about Westminster parking tickets.
