Meet Adrienne Fisher: Academic Support Specialist, Learning Opportunities Center

Education: MS in Counseling from Central Methodist University (in progress); MFA in Poetry from the University of Houston, 2011; BA in English Literature and Poetry, University of Virginia, 2006.

Hometown: I  technically was born in Milton, Delaware, but grew up all over the world.

Advice for students taking her classes: My biggest piece of advice would be, let me help! If you need it, ask for it. Don’t wait until you feel overwhelmed. You don’t have to feel alone here. That’s what makes this place so special!

Most rewarding professional experience: Any time I see a struggling student who comes forward, tells someone, and gets help, and then to see that student not only overcome their difficulties — personal, academic, spiritual — but thrive and become a positive force in the world … there is nothing more rewarding.

Favorite quote: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” – Marianne Williamson

One book she recommends to others: Calvin and Hobbes — and I have all of them in my office ;).

What she does in her free time: Relax with friends; spend every evening on the front porch dog-watching and talking with my fiancé, Martin Casey; read everything; write; dance; go on walks around the neighborhood; and I’m a big film buff.

Favorite movie: Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are DeadSlamWitFargo, Chocolat, and Quiz Show

Favorite food: Duck.

Most treasured possession: My engagement ring.

A talent she wishes she had: Languages! I would love to be able to learn new languages easily.
