Marsh’s Million Dollar Gift Establishes Economic Chair

An estate gift of one million dollars from the late Westminster alumnus John Marsh,‘49 and his late wife Joyce has endowed a new Chair of Economics at the College.

The new John W. and Joyce G. Marsh Endowed Chair of Economics has been established in their name thanks to their financial forethought.

“Endowed funds create a living legacy here at Westminster,” says Westminster President Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande. “We are so grateful for this generous gift from the estate of John and Joy.  Their love for Westminster will live on through the work this makes possible.”

John Marsh, a loyal member of Beta Theta Pi, was an active member of the Westminster Board of Trustees from 1973-2003, including a three-year term as Chair of the Board from 1995-1998.  He became a Lifetime/Emeritus Trustee in July 2003 and received an honorary degree from the institution in 1999. He was inducted as a Churchill Fellow and was a member of Westminster’s St. Louis Investment Club.

Following John’s death, Joyce remained very connected to the College that both she and John loved so dearly.

According to President Akande, “Endowed chairs make it possible for Westminster to attract the best professors and provide the resources necessary for these professors to be at the forefront of their research and course content.”
