Occupation:  6th Grade English Language Arts teacher at The Ewing Marion Kauffman School in Kansas City, Missouri

 Skulls of Seven, Student Ambassadors, Kappa Delta Pi, Education Association, Honor Commission, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Women’s Soccer, Freshmen Mentor, Alumni Council, Young Board of Trustees member.  

What is your favorite spot on the Westminster campus?  

Sitting on the Delt front porch on a sunny day, looking onto the Hill.  

What is your favorite Westminster memory?  

My favorite memory at Westminster was my junior year when all of my best friends lived in the apartments. We had a snow day which turned into a snow weekend. We spent all of our time going from apartment to apartment eating whatever we could make from our bare pantries and watching movies. In the middle of the night, we got all bundled up and rounded up some Delts to go sledding down the hill behind Westminster Hall. Half the excitement was just avoiding campus security. 

What role did Westminster play in leading you to your current position/studies?   

When first looking for teaching jobs, I looked in Kansas City because all of my best friends from Westminster had graduated the year ahead of me and already lived there. I spoke with several Westminster alumni that taught in the KC area to determine which schools to apply to. After two years teaching in the district, Camille (Stiegler) Burgmeier suggested I tour her school—the Kauffman School. I got to see her teach, and I was completely hooked!  

Which of your achievements are you most proud of?  What do you consider your greatest success?  

I’m very proud of being named the Young Trustee for Westminster. It was an incredible two years…getting to sit with some incredibly motivated and talented people who are not only experts in their fields of work, but also extremely passionate about Westminster. I learned how a higher education institute runs and sustains and how to create connections that will be of value down the road. That opportunity isn’t given to many 22-year-olds! 

Where do you see yourself headed from here? 

As I continue my teaching career, I would like to be able to get involved in the school or district I work in to be able to help make decisions for the students, staff, and families. Being a part of Westminster’s Board of Trustees got me interested in all of the many facets of a school. I hope to make a lasting impression on my school or district.  

Do you recommend Westminster to prospective college students? Why?  

Beyond the shadow of a doubt! Westminster was more than I ever expected college to be. Westminster allows you to literally do anything and everything you ever thought you’d want to do. You can play a sport and be in Greek life. You can focus on academics and still attend campus events. The professors know you by name and know your family when they come to campus. The president’s door is open to your thoughts or concerns. When other students or friends come on to campus they always leave saying how fun and friendly everyone is. Westminster seeks out the student that can work hard in the classroom and take what they’ve learned out into their everyday life to impact the world. Westminster truly creates students able to lead and succeed.
