The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company announced the 84 nominees for the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team and Westminster College senior Leigh Ann Lutz (California, Mo. /California) was one of them.

This award recognizes college basketball student-athletes that have not only excelled on and off the court, but have made significant contributions to their community through volunteerism and civic service.

The Allstate WBCA Good Works Team will be comprised of five members from the NCAA Division I level and five members from the NCAA Division II, III and NAIA levels. Leigh Ann is among the 32 nominees that are up for the five NCAA Division II, III and NAIA spots. The 10-member team will be announced in February.

“Leigh Ann has been committed to leading our team in our community service activities the past couple of years,” stated women’s basketball head coach Tracey Braden. “She has set up various community service opportunities for us and always does the ‘extra’ work to see it happen. She believes it is important that we as a women’s basketball program set the standard of service and giving back to our community.”

Leigh Ann has donated much of her time to the Fulton community since coming to Westminster College. She has helped put on basketball clinics for the local elementary schools and the Missouri School of the Deaf and has refereed 3-on-3 tournaments put on for breast cancer awareness. She set up the Blue Jay Buddies program working with McIntyre Elementary School. She has been a Special Olympics volunteer for four years and just recently became a seminar mentor for the freshman at Westminster.

Leigh Ann’s community service list continues on, and she is always looking for new ways to help out in the community. She has also encouraged and helped guide the women’s basketball team to serving the community also.

“Our team gets a lot of support from the community throughout the season, but it is not all about us,” commented Leigh Ann. “I think it is really important to give back and be thankful. We have an awesome coaching staff and team who believes in servant-hood, so we will continue to volunteer and help out where we can throughout the season.”

Leigh Ann is a four year member of Westminster women’s basketball team. During her junior year, she joined the 1,000 point club and broke the season record for three-pointers. She has not only led the team on the court, but in the classroom as well; she has maintained a perfect 4.0 throughout her collegiate career.
