Lee Jr. Leads Blue Jays To 91-73 Victory Over Principia

Junior Verdis Lee Jr. scored one-third of the Blue Jays’ points in Thursday night’s 91-73 win over Principia College. The win improves the Blue Jays’ overall record to 9-8 and their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to 6-4.

After three minutes of play the Blue Jays sparked a 15-3 run that gave them the 23-10 lead. The Blue Jays held a steady 10 point lead throughout the first half, but with two minutes remaining in the first, the Panthers sparked a 6-0 run to bring them within 6 points. The Blue Jays held a 41-35 lead heading into halftime.

The Blue Jays outscored the Panthers 16-7 in the first four minutes in the second half. The Blue Jays grabbed an 18 point lead with a steal and fast break layup by Lee Jr. with 14:25 left in the game. The Blue Jays increased the lead to 24 points with 4:14 remaining in the game, but the Panthers were able to cut the deficit to 18 points, ending the game at 91-73.

The Blue Jays went 14-for-14 from the foul line and shot 56.5 percent from the field (35-62).

Lee Jr. scored 32 points and pulled down a game high 5 rebounds. He went 13-for-16 from the field for the night. Junior Brandon Moore went 7-for-9 from the field to add 18 points to the win.

The Blue Jays will travel to Eureka, Illinois this Saturday, January 25, to play Eureka College. Tip-off is at 3:00 p.m.
