Senior Luke Cryer Selected as Fellow With Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy

Luke Cryer, ’21, a History major from Republic, MO, has been named a 2021-2022 fellow with the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

The Kinder Institute reserves up to two spots in its program for Westminster seniors majoring in History, Political Science, or Security Studies.

Dr. Tobias T. Gibson, the Dr. John Langton Professor of Legal Studies and Political Science, says the College’s relationship with the Kinder Institute is one of many benefits to Westminster seniors who are interested in furthering their education after graduation. A master’s degree in Atlantic History and Politics from the Institute can open doors for students.

“The Kinder Institute’s MA program offers excellent Westminster students a world-class education at a reasonable cost,” Gibson explains. “Students learn from talented faculty at the University of Missouri, can study abroad in England and South Africa, and have access to various speakers who are drawn by the prestige of the Institute’s academic reputation.”

The well-respected fellowship leads to a Master of Arts in one year and includes a summer program at Oxford University in Oxford, England. Students also can opt for three extra credit hours and study at South the University of Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa.

Fellows are also eligible to earn up three hours of credit through internships or employment secured separately by the student.

In the past, students have completed internships at a variety of museums throughout Missouri, including America’s National Churchill Museum on Westminster’s campus.

Gibson says Cryer exemplifies what the Kinder Institute has come to expect from Westminster graduates.

He says, “Luke has taken several classes with me, and I know firsthand that he is an engaged and inquisitive student who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Kinder.”
