Finish Up: Westminster-First Presbyterian Church Partnership Will Help Working Adults Complete College Degrees

Degree completion programs will move in a new and exciting direction this fall for working adults in the Jefferson City area who want to “finishUP” their college degree.

Westminster College will offer its B.A. degree in leadership in partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City. The degree provides flexibility and affordability to enable adult learners to take their careers to the next level while balancing personal and professional commitments.

The new leadership degree program in Jefferson City will give adults the tools they need to advance in their professional lives and enrich their personal lives. The value of a liberal arts degree is that students will develop leadership skills allowing them to think more broadly and critically, communicate more clearly, problem solve more effectively, negotiate more capably and collaborate more completely through conveniently scheduled course work that fits their busy lives.

Classes for this two-year program will be taught on Thursday evenings at First Presbyterian Church, centrally located in downtown Jefferson City.  Adults who have already completed 90 hours of undergraduate work will complete five courses a year, and many of the classes will be a hybrid of classroom and online work to give the greatest flexibility. Students will learn from and be mentored by recognized community leaders with real-world experience.

For adults who need additional credit hours to complete their undergraduate degree, online courses will be available through Westminster College that can be taken in conjunction with the leadership degree.

Community service plays a major role in Westminster’s leadership mission, and the degree will culminate with a capstone experience that allows students to directly serve the community, hone their professional skills and finalize their career goals.

Westminster and the Presbyterian Church established a special bond when the college opened its doors in 1851 and they have a like-minded commitment to education as a means to raise up leaders to serve in communities.
