Lady Blue Jays Top Greenville 75-67
Greenville, Ill. – The Westminster Lady Blue Jays topped Greenville College 75-67 Saturday afternoon. The win brings the Blue Jays’ St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to 2-3 and their overall record to 4-7.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle for the Blue Jays and the Greenville Panthers. With 2:08 left in the half, Greenville make a jumper to tie up the game at 27-27.
Senior Leigh Ann Lutz countered with a three-pointer just seconds later to put them up 30-27. The Panthers managed a jump shot, but the Blue Jays headed into halftime with the 30-29 lead.
Sophomore Jen Herndon scored the five of the Blue Jay’s first eight points in the second half, grabbing the early 38-32 lead. The Panthers came back into the game with a run of their own and held the lead for the next seven minutes.
The Blue Jays chipped away at the deficit and two jump shots from Herndon jump started the Blue Jays’ 13-0 run, taking the 61-54 lead.
The Blue Jays followed with an 8-0 run and did not look back. The Blue Jays continued to propel and topped the Panthers 75-67.
The Blue Jays shot 53.8 percent from the field and 57.9 percent from the three-point line. Lutz led the game with 22 points after going 8-15 from the field and dished in four assists. Freshman Andrea Zalis chipped in 14 points and went 3-4 from the three-point line. Zalis grabbed 8 rebounds and put in three assists.
The Blue Jays will start their five game home streak on Tuesday, January 14 as they host Fontbonne University at 6:00 p.m. The game will be live streamed here.
