Lady Blue Jays Fall To Webster, 55-77

The Westminster Lady Blue Jays could not overcome the first half 22-40 deficit and ultimately fell to the Webster University Gorloks, 55-77. The Blue Jays are now 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

The Blue Jays and the Gorloks went back-and-forth in the first five minutes of the game, but the Gorloks managed a 26-5 run in the following ten minutes, bringing the score to 16-39. The Blue Jays scored just six more points in the first half, sending them into halftime down 22-40.

The Blue Jays kept pace with the Gorloks throughout the second half, scoring 33 points to the Gorlok’s 37 points, but they could not overcome the first half deficit.

Sophomore Jen Herndon led the Blue Jays with 12 points and added seven rebounds to the loss. Junior Danielle Smulczenski grabbed a career high nine rebounds and scored nine points. Sophomore Kasey Gatson and senior Leigh Ann Lutz chipped in 10 and 9 points, respectively.

The Blue Jays head to Greenville, Illinois on Saturday, January 11 to take on Greenville College. Tip off will be at 1:00 p.m.
