Lady Blue Jays Dominate Blackburn, 88-66

The Westminster Lady Blue Jays dominated Blackburn College, 88-66, Saturday afternoon, extending their winning streak to four games. The Blue Jays are now 7-7 overall and 5-3 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play.

The Blue Jays started the game with a 13-0 lead before the Blue Jays were able to get on the board. They increased the lead and a three-pointer by senior Leigh Ann Lutz with the assist from sophomore Sadie Theroff gave the Blue Jays an 20 point lead, 34-14.

The Blue Jays finished out the half with the 46-24 lead. Heading into halftime the Blue Jays were shooting 50% from the field and 62.5% from the three-point line (5-8).

Coming into the second half, the Blue Jays managed to push the lead to 28 points (61-33). Blackburn chipped away at the deficit and the game was within 20 points with 8:10 remaining in the game. The Blue Jays held strong and won the game 88-66.

The Blue Jays ended the game with a 46.8 field goal percentage and a 40.9 three-point percentage. They also shot 80.8% from the foul line (21-16).

Theroff led the Blue Jays with 15 points after going 5-for-9 from the three-point line. Sophomore Jen Herndon scored 14 points, going 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line; she was one rebound shy of a double-double (9). Sophomore Kasey Gatson added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to the win.

The Blue Jays host Spalding University on Monday, January 20, at 3:00 p.m.
