Dr. Jamie Kondis ’02 To Receive Young Alumni Achievement Award
Dr. Jamie Spurrier Kondis from St. Louis, MO, Westminster College Class of 2002, will receive the Young Alumni Achievement Award at a special Alumni Honors Convocation Ceremony to be held at 10:30 a.m., April 25, during Alumni Weekend in the Church of St. Mary, Aldermanbury on the Westminster College campus in Fulton, MO.
Dr. Kondis is currently an instructor in pediatrics for Washington University School of Medicine and an attending physician in Child Abuse Pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Her work involves seeing inpatients and outpatients; working in the Emergency Department; training residents, fellows and medical students; training other pediatricians throughout the Midwest about child abuse; lecturing; testifying in court cases; and undertaking various research projects.
She serves as a member of the Child Fatality Review Panel for both St. Louis and St. Charles counties as well as the City of St. Louis. She is also a member of the St. Louis City/County Sexual Assault Response Team.
Established in 2009, the Young Alumni Achievement Award annually recognizes alumni who demonstrate the Westminster mission through outstanding achievement early in their chosen career and/or dedicated leadership and service to their community.
“I am positive that my Westminster education is directly responsible for my career choice and success in my chosen field,” says Dr. Kondis. “Westminster prepared me for the type of multidisciplinary work I do. Westminster challenged me to think outside the box and taught me how to deal with intense challenges on a daily basis.”
Following graduation from Westminster, Dr. Kondis attended the Indiana University School of Medicine. She then completed her residency in Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine.
Next she worked a year as Chief Resident in Pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital before completing a fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics. She was one of the first in the country to complete a board certified, accredited fellowship in this area of Pediatrics, which became an official subspecialty of Pediatrics in 2009.
Dr. Kondis has authored chapters in the textbooks Recognition of Child Abuse for the Mandated Reporter and The Washington Manual of Pediatrics and has published three articles in professional journals.
She has given multiple regional and national presentations on her areas of professional expertise and has provided expert testimony in over twenty cases.
Dr. Kondis gives back to Westminster by serving as an advisor to the Epsilon Iota Chapter of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta.
During her undergraduate years at Westminster, she was resident advisor, a member of Student Foundation, the Alpha Chi Academic Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society and the Alpha Mu Gamma French Honor Society. She was awarded the Cameron and Jesse Day Biology Prize for Outstanding Senior Biology Student and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in biology and minors in French and European Studies.
Westminster’s Alumni Weekend is the largest on-campus event for alumni and one of the favorite Westminster College traditions. This year’s celebration April 24-26 will include past favorites such as the golf tournament, a Bill Parrish college history lecture and dueling pianos event as well as many new events such as the William W. Robertson Bust Dedication Ceremony, a Skulls of Seven Reunion and a celebration of the 35th anniversary of Women at Westminster.
