Iron Butterfly and Women in the Arena Podcasters to Head Up Special Webcast
Update: A link to the webcast described below can now be found on Westminster’s YouTube page.
Three female podcasters with a razor-sharp focus on women in U.S. intelligence and the military will head up a special webcast at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 13, followed by a Q&A session.
Sponsored by Westminster’s Security Studies Program, the Zoom event will be accessible through a private link obtained through event coordinator Dr. Tobias Gibson at [email protected].
Hosts from The Iron Butterfly and Women in the Arena podcasts will discuss their unique careers in national security and the U.S. military, respectively, as well as the influences behind their highly successful media platforms.
- Cadie Hopkins, Iron Butterfly Co-Founder
- Megan Jaffer, Iron Butterfly Co-Founder
- Sarah Scully, Women in the Arena Producer and Host
“Each episode of these podcasts tells an individual story of an influential, interesting, and inspiring woman’s career in national intelligence and the military,” Gibson says.
One such career forms the very foundation of The Iron Butterfly: Eloise Page ― code name “Iron Butterfly.” Page was the first female chief of station with the Central Intelligence Agency and the inspiration behind the podcast and media platform of the same name.
The Women in the Arena podcast similarly shines a light on unsung female heroes. Its title cleverly reimagines former President Theodore Roosevelt’s famous 1910 “Man in the Arena” speech, reframing the qualities of courage and resilience within the context of women in the military.
Together, all three hosts will tackle the subjects of working in a male-dominated field, conquering adversity in the workplace, and celebrating diversity through openness and authenticity.
“When I heard the hosts of The Iron Butterfly were interested in outreach to colleges and universities, I jumped at the chance for Westminster to host this event,” Gibson explains. “Likewise, based on the rich history of ROTC at Westminster, I am equally thrilled for Women in the Arena host Sarah Scully to be a part of this webcast, which should be highly interesting.”
