International Week, Nov. 10-14

With 70 different countries represented on the Westminster College campus, the College’s international students will showcase the richness of their cultures during International Week Nov. 10-14. Approximately 17 percent of Westminster’s student body is international, and earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Westminster #8 among all national liberal arts colleges for the highest percentage of international students.
The week will begin with international students preparing food from their home countries on Monday, Nov. 10. The dishes they prepare will be served in the Johnson College Inn (JCI) in the Hunter Activity Center from 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, salsa lessons will be offered from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Hermann Lounge. With such a large Spanish speaking group of students on campus and the popularity of this dance form, the Spanish Club decided to partner with the International Club to sponsor this event for the week.
From noon-1 p.m. the next day, Wednesday, Nov. 12, a campus lunch and learn will be held on careers in international education.
On Thursday, Nov. 13, the focus will be on world poverty. The International Club and the Poverty Initiative on campus will host an art exhibition at 5 p.m. in the Mueller Leadership Hall entitled “The Face of Poverty.”
The culmination of International Week will be the International Show at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, in Champ Auditorium. Students from all over the world will perform songs, dances and musical compositions from their native countries and wear beautiful, colorful clothing from their homelands.
