What is the Green Foundation Lectureship?

Have you heard of Westminster’s Green Foundation Lecture? Want to know what it is all about?

The Green Foundation Lecture is a signature event at Westminster College where internationally renowned speakers come in and share their views on current global issues. The most famous of these speakers have included Winston Churchill (see photo above from 1946), Harry Truman, George H.W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, and J.C. Penney. The Green Foundation Lectureship was established in 1936 as a memorial to John Findley Green, an attorney in St. Louis who graduated from Westminster in 1884.

The 2014 Green Foundation Lecture will be delivered by Bob Geldof, a music innovator, actor, and activist concerned with aiding people in the developing world. During the 1980s he founded Band-Aid and Live Aid: a charity focused on mobilizing the music community and the world to provide famine relief in Africa. Geldof has also drawn attention to poverty reduction in the developing world through his Live 8 and One Campaign.
