Westmo Summer Abroad 2015

Above, nine Westminster students and professors Dr. Enrique Salas-Durazo and Dr. Chris Halsey at Volcan de Pacaya, Escuintla in Guatemala. The group spent three weeks in Guatemala early this summer for intensive Spanish lessons and medical service work.

This summer, you’ll find Westminster students studying and making a difference around the world.

Twenty-eight students are studying via faculty-led travel abroad experiences to Belize and Guatemala.

Two pairs of Westminster students were awarded funding for international travel through the College’s Take-A-Friend-Home Program: (1) Becca Cameron (Chicago, Illinois) and Kate Crawford (Maastricht, Netherlands) and (2) Jaynie Coffman (Auxvasse, Missouri) and Lejla Dervisevic (Cazin, Bosnia-Herzegovina). Four more students were also slated for travel abroad to Nepal through the program but the country’s recent earthquake prohibited the journey. Our thoughts remain with our students from Nepal as their families and countries rebuild from the disaster.

Three students were awarded a Projects for Peace grant, funding travel to Uganda and the implementation of their project to bring quality online education to local communities in that country.

Six Westminster students, led by Dr. Bob Hansen, are spending 19 days in Africa, continuing Westminster’s longstanding humanitarian work with Humanity for Children.

How does a global education benefit the success of Westminster students?
