Westminster College: News and Notes from the nest

Global Leader in Residence: Rev. Nicole Ashwood

Tuesday, October 7 through Friday, October 10, Westminster will host a Global Leader in Residence visit with Rev. Nicole Ashwood. Ashwood serves as the Education in Mission Secretary for the Caribbean and North America Council for Mission – CANACOM.

Once described as a rebel without a cause,  ‘Nicqi’ has indeed found her cause – representing the disenfranchised and promoting mission relationships with her Member Churches in the Caribbean and North America basin. Nicqi is passionate about her people (being a native of Jamaica) and prefers to use the moniker MAD to describe her work and witness – Making a Difference – with  CANACOM.

She also serves with the World Council of Churches (WCC) as a Mover for Gender Justice and works with the World Council of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and the Council for World Mission (CWM) on areas regarding gender-based violence.

Begun in 2011, the Global Leaders in Residence program is designed to bring leaders from a variety of academic and professional fields to campus for two to three days to speak to classes, interact socially with students, consult with faculty and staff and deliver a campus-wide presentation on their efforts to make a difference in the world. The program is under the auspices of The Churchill Institute and has two components: the Global Leaders in Residence and the Global Scholars in Residence programs.
