Gerber’s Hat Trick Aids In Blue Jays 12-0 Win, Continues Perfect SLIAC Record

The Westminster men’s soccer team demolished Iowa Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon en route to extending their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to a perfect 6-0. Freshman Peter Gerber completed his first career hat trick and freshman Keagan Cavanah finished the game with seven points.

Freshman Drew Cook scored the first goal off a penalty kick in the 7th minute. Ten minutes later, senior Michael McDonough scored directly from his corner kick. McDonough scored the following goal off an assist from Cavanah. Senior Zach Moore’s goal ended the first half with the Blue Jays up 4-0.

Freshman Jordan Reiske opened up the second half with a breakaway goal from junior Jacob Appelbaum’s cross. Gerber managed to score the following three goals, with the last two only being 40 seconds apart. Senior RJ Moore assisted the first goal, Cook assisted the second and senior Sasha Mohammadi assisted the last of Gerber’s goals. Cavanah scored in the 64th minute on a breakaway from senior Zach Moore. Freshman Jan Fanning scored the 10th goal of the game off Cavanah’s second assist. Senior Tyler Walker scored in the 86th minute from Cavanah’s third assist. Cavanah put the final touch on the game with a goal in the 89th minute off a pass from junior Mitch Stewart.

Senior John Davis was credited with the win after he tallied six saves throughout the 70 minutes of play.

The Blue Jays will host the SLIAC Game of the Week on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Blue Jays will take on Greenville, who is currently tied for second in the SLIAC with a 5-1 conference record.

Westminster will honor the 10 senior men’s soccer players prior to the game.
