From Westmoore to Westminster: An Interview with Jace Christopher

High School: Westmoore High School

Major: Public health

What helped you decide on your major?

I really looked up to and trusted my advisors. They steered me towards that direction when I was struggling in other areas of school. Public health is really were I found my most potential, and I am excited to see where it takes me.

What are some fun facts about you?

 My brother is adopted from Russia, I’ve been to more concerts than I can count, and I’ve met met about eight big celebrities like ASAP Ferg and Flex Pavilion.

What brought you to Westminster College?

I originally came to Westminster for baseball. I had been looking at a couple of schools but quickly noticed that Westminster not only valued sports but also valued education. I also chose Westminster because of the student-to-teacher ratio, which is really small. To learn and be successful, I need to be in an environment where I can be sociable and ask questions. I was able find this at Westminster.

What clubs and organizations are you involved with on campus, and what other things do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of class?

I am involved in the Blue Blazers Investment Committee and am a member of Beta Theta Phi.  I like to go to the gym, play video games and be sociable. I can spark a conversation with anyone, especially grandmas.

What is something that stands out to you about Westminster?

I think the tight-knit community is what I notice most about this school. If you can see yourself doing really good things, other people can see it as well. You can develop a name for yourself at Westminster.

How have you found your purpose here?

Building friendships is really important to me. Making connections at Westminster has really boosted what I want to be when I grow up. These relationships have taught me how I want to interact with everyone, how I want others to treat me and how I can treat other people.

How has Westminster helped shape you as a leader?

As a freshman, I had to take a step back and take in how this environment works. I came from a large school, so I had to come to the understanding that everyone knows everyone. You have to be on good terms with everyone. Specifically, as a leader, you have to be able to develop everyone on your team or those surrounding you because they are all a part of your organization. I think I’ve learned that you have to learn about everyone before you can lead successfully.

What are your goals after your upcoming graduation?

I intend to be a public health organization’s representative. I would like to represent a new technology that could prevent health defects in babies or even in developing countries. I want to work globally and expand my horizon.

If you could give other students or incoming freshmen a word of advice, what would it be?

If I could give one piece of advice it would be to take the jump and to not look back, because the outcomes are way better than just falling down. You can give everything your all and expect nothing less, but if you give the bare minimum, you’re not going to get anything back. That’s Westminster.
