Final Minutes Prove Fatal For Lady Blue Jays

The final minutes of the Westminster versus William Woods’ women’s soccer game proved fatal for the Westminster Blue Jays. The Owls of William Woods defeated the Blue Jays 4-2; the Blue Jays record moves to 2-4-1 overall.

“It would of been nice to put a couple more away on them and walk out with a Fulton win, but we’ll see that another day,” said Coach Jen Dyson.

The Owls scored the lone goal of the first half in the 33rd minute. The Blue Jays held the Owls to just two shots on goal in the first half, but were limited to just two shots.

The Blue Jays opened the second half with a goal by sophomore Ashley Schimmel from senior Beau Reiske just two minutes into play, tying the game at 1-1. A 22 yard shot by sophomore Eileen Koppy hit the top left corner of the net for a goal in the 63rd minute to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The game was tied up just four minutes later when the Owl’s Jordan McNamara hit her second goal of the game. The Owls hit two more goals in the 84th and 87th minutes to take and secure the lead.

“The girls played absolutely fantastic tonight. I’m 100 percent proud of their effort tonight,” said Coach Dyson.

The Blue Jays finished the game with eight shots, seven on goal. Freshman Ellen Woolsey faced nine shots on goal and completed the game with five saves.

The Blue Jays will travel to Elmhurst, Illinois to play Elmhurst College Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
