Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment Completed

This year’s Westminster fraternity and sorority recruitment processes have concluded. All fraternity chapters welcomed 11 to 24 new members and all sorority chapters reached or exceeded their quota of 11 new members.

“The fraternity and sorority formal recruitment process for 2017 was a success,” says Assistant Director of Campus Life Nicole Elliott. “The Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council worked hard to market and encourage non-affiliated students to give Greek Life a chance, and many did.”

Fraternity formal recruitment began August 24, and 77 men completed the recruitment process with 75 accepting bids on August 26.

Results were as follows:

  • Delta Tau Delta—25 bids extended—24 bids accepted;
  • Kappa Alpha Order—18 bids extended—13 bids accepted;
  • Beta Theta Pi—19 bids extended—16 bids accepted;
  • Phi Delta Theta—20 bids extended—11 bids accepted; and,
  • Sigma Alpha Epsilon—17 bids extended—11 bids accepted.

Fraternity chapters can continue to extend bids and bring in new members after the formal process.  New member education will begin for most chapters September 5.

Sorority formal recruitment began August 25, and 54 women signed up for the recruitment process with 37 receiving bids.

Results were as follows:

  • Kappa Kappa Gamma—12 bids accepted;
  • Alpha Gamma Delta—11 bids accepted; and,
  • Kappa Alpha Theta—12 bids accepted

The formal process for sororities ended at 5 p.m. on August 27.

“Sorority and fraternity membership teaches crucial social interaction skills,” says Elliott. “Interacting with strangers and introducing them to their affiliation during formal recruitment is a great way to test those skills. Now the real work begins with new member education and helping our new Greek community members gain the benefit of lifelong fraternity or sorority membership.”
