Academic Program Highlight: Pre-Law and Legal Professions

For those interested in pursing a legal career, Westminster’s Pre-Law and Legal Professions program prepares students to lead in the field and provides them with the skills and connections they need to succeed.

Westminster’s distinctive Pre-Law program is built around a Pre-Law minor, which includes coursework tailored to preparing students for the Law School Aptitude Test (LSAT), law school, and careers post-law school. The minor requires 21 hours of coursework that includes classes such as Logic, Speech, Business Law, Constitutional Law and Politics, U.S. Supreme Court, American Jurisprudence, and American Political Theory. Students can complete a law-related internship that will count for elective credit as well. See the academic catalog for a complete list of courses available for the minor.

Students in the program can work with Westminster’s Pre-Law advisor, Dr. John Langton, who has more than 30 years of experience getting students into law schools including Harvard, Yale, and Duke, among others.

The Pre-Law minor can be combined with any major. If students want to major in Political Science but are interested in taking more Pre-Law courses, a Pre-Law Political Science track allows them to simultaneously have a major and minor emphasizing law.

In addition, Westminster offers an LSAT prep course every spring semester intended to prepare students their junior year to take the exam in the summer, leaving time for students to apply to law schools in the fall semester of their senior year.

Also supporting the Pre-Law program, Westminster has an active chapter of Phi Alpha Delta, an international law fraternity, which provides students the opportunity to connect with other students interested in law and Phi Alpha Delta alumni.
