National Churchill Museum Featured by News Outlets Across the Nation

November 30, 2017 marked Winston Churchill’s 143rd birthday. As the foremost authority on Churchill in the United States, the National Churchill Museum has gained national attention around this notable day.

Listeners who tuned in to National Public Radio’s Morning Edition last Thursday heard a story that strikes close to the hearts of those who love Westminster. Alex Huer of St. Louis Public Radio traveled to Fulton to profile the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, and tell how the transplanted church became a monument to the memory of Winston Churchill and his impact on the world.

The story includes audio of St. Mary’s pipe organ echoing through the chapel and an interview with Tim Riley, NCM’s director and chief curator, on the church’s remarkable journey from a bombed-out shell in London to the home of the National Churchill Museum on Westminster’s campus.

The National Churchill Museum is also in the news for an upcoming exhibition in southern Florida. The Palm Beach Arts Paper recently highlighted the visiting exhibit A Man for All Seasons: The Art of Winston Churchill, set to open Saturday, December 2 at the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach. The exhibit, organized by NCM,  features 28 oil paintings by Churchill, who was an accomplished artist. Churchill’s granddaughter, the artist Edwina Sandys, will discuss her grandfather’s work at an event on December 9.

On Saturday, December 2, Los Angeles’ radio station KABC-AM will air a special one-hour radio program celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Queen Mary’s arrival in Long Beach and the opening of a new Churchill-themed exhibition on the ship. Tim Riley will be interviewed as a Churchill expert.

The program will air on KABC-AM at 2:00 p.m. PST and 4:00 p.m. PST. The program may also be heard on KABC.com – using the ‘Listen Live’ tab and selecting “A SALUTE TO THE QUEEN MARY AND CHURCHILL.” It will remain available through the month of December.

And on Monday, December 11 at 4:05 p.m., Tim Riley will talk with popular radio personality Paul Harris on The Paul Harris Show in St. Louis. Riley will discuss the Museum, Westminster, and the new film Darkest Hour, which opens in St. Louis on December 15. The film, which stars Gary Oldman as Churchill, received a red carpet screening at the National Churchill Museum in October.
