Eight Football Athletes Named To UMAC All-Conference Teams
The Westminster football team had eight student-athletes named to the 2013 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) All-Conference Teams. Senior Troy Temple was honored with the Individual Sportsmanship Award for Westminster. The All-Conference award winners are: Josh Bromberg, Jeremy Hampton, Jeff Dickerson, Ronnie Seals Jr., Mike Washington, Louvis Johnson and Kyle Bryant.
Senior Josh Bromberg was named to the UMAC Linebackers First Team. He led the Blue Jays defense for the 2013 season. He finished with 46 solo tackles and 36 assisted tackles. He tallied 13 tackle for a loss of 38 yards, including 2.5 sacks for 14 yards. He had four interceptions on the season for 74 yards, including two pick sixes. Bromberg was named the UMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 2-8.
Senior Jeremy Hampton was named to the UMAC Defensive Backs First Team. He closed the season with 20 solo tackles and 20 assisted tackles. He also had four pass breakups and five passes defended.
Freshman kicker Jeff Dickerson was named the UMAC Kicker First Team. Dickerson averaged 38 yards per punt for the 2013 season. He had 50 punts for 1901 yards with 17 punts landing in the 20, five fair catches and seven that were 50+ yards. Dickerson also averaged 56.6 yards per kickoff. He had 27 kickoffs for a total of 1537 yards. Dickerson was named the UMAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of October 28-November 3.
Senior Ronnie Seals Jr. was named to the UMAC Running Backs Second Team. Seals Jr. led the Blue Jays in rushing yards with 872 rushing yards on 148 carries. His 145.3 rushing yards per game average had Seals Jr. on pace to setting a new Westminster season rushing yard record before a season-ending injury halted his stride. He also chipped in 55 receiving yards on 9 receptions. In his six game season, Seals Jr. had 9 touchdowns, including three touchdowns alone in the game against Crown College.
Freshman Mike Washington was named to the UMAC Wide Receivers Second Team. Washington led the Blue Jays’ in receiving yards with 692 yards on 51 receptions throughout the 2013 season. He averaged 13.6 yards per reception and scored two touchdowns, including his career long 76 yard reception against Martin Luther College.
Senior Louvis Johnson was named to the UMAC Defensive Lineman Second Team. He ranked second on the team with 31 solo tackles and led the team with 38 assisted tackles. Throughout the season, he had 3.5 sacks for a total of 20 yards and 12 tackles for a loss of 29 yards.
Junior Kyle Bryant was also named to the UMAC Defensive Lineman Second Team. Bryant finished the season with six tackles for a loss of 44 yards and 3.5 sacks for 28 yards. He had a pick six for 20 yards in the game against the University of Minnesota-Morris and rounded out the season with 25 tackles.
The Blue Jays finished their season with a 2-8 overall record and a 2-7 UMAC record.
