Drew Cook and Raul Belman Romero Named SLIAC Players of the Week
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the Players of the Week for October 21st. Westminster’s Drew Cook and Raul Belman Romero were named the Men’s Soccer Players of the Week.
Drew Cook, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., was named the SLIAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. He led the Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory over Fontbonne last weekend in a meeting of undefeated conference teams. Cook gave his team an early lead with a goal just 21 minutes into the game and would go on to score the game winning goal on a breakaway in overtime.
Raul Belman Romero, a freshman from Celaya, Mexico, was named the SLIAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. He picked up a pair of conference wins in net last weekend for the Blue Jays. Romero came up with four saves in the Blue Jay’s 2-1 win over Fontbonne and followed with two saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Spalding. On the week, Romero finished with six saves and a .857 save percentage in 190 minutes of action. This marks the second time this season he has won the weekly award.
The Blue Jay men’s soccer team will return to action on Wednesday, October 23, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa as they take on Iowa Wesleyan College.
