Herndon Sets Shot Put Record At Culver-Stockton Open

Sophomore Jen Herndon set the modern day and retired shot put record at the Culver-Stockton Open on Saturday afternoon. The women’s track & field team opened up the outdoor season with a third place finish and four first place finishes. The men’s team placed fifth with two first place finishes.

Herndon placed first with her record breaking 10.76-meter shot put throw and placed third in the javelin throw with a 25.22-meter throw.

Senior Sarah Ogar placed first in the 400-meter dash with a 1:02.84 time. She also placed first in the 800-meter run with a 2:36.56 time.

Junior Nyima Njie placed second (13.62) in the 100-meter dash, followed by junior Tanisha Terrell in fourth (14.25). Njie and Terrell also competed in the 200-meter dash. Njie placed second with a 28.22 time. Freshman Rachel Bade placed fourth with a 28.55 time and Terrell rounded out the points in sixth place with a 29.72 time.

Sophomore Brier Skogsberg placed first in the 3000-meter run with a final time of 11:52.18.

The Blue Jays’ 4×800-meter relay team, comprised of senior Matt Borst, freshman Ryan Dyer, sophomore Jesse Edwards and junior Daniel Lindaman, placed first with a 8:46.96 time (10 seconds faster than second place).

Three Blue Jays competed in the 3000-meter run and Borst and Lindaman came in first (10:02.85) and second (10:02.86), respectively. Senior Jake Burch rounded out the Blue Jays in sixth place with an 11:06.92 time.

Borst placed second (4:11.15) in the 1500-meter run and Lindaman placed fifth with a 4:24.77 time. Rounding out the Blue Jays was Burch (10th /4:56.10) and Dyer (12th /5:00.50).

Junior Dan Breihan placed second in the triple jump with a 10.83-meter jump and fourth in the long jump with a 5.77-meter jump.

Sophomore Bret Robertson placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.41) and the javelin throw (45.40-meters).

Junior Mike Lutz and sophomore Christian Houston placed fifth (10.63m) and sixth (9.83m) in the shot put, respectively. Lutz placed ninth (28.55m) in the javelin throw and Houston placed tenth (19.69m).
