Croghan Shares Sports & Entertainment Management Biz Expertise at Conference
Approximately 70 instructors from 70 different Missouri high schools benefited from the knowledge of Westminster’s Director of the Sports and Entertainment Business Management Program Jack Croghan. Croghan shared insight into the sports and entertainment management business during two presentations at the MOACTE/MBEA Summer Conference on July 24-27 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield, Missouri.
MOACTE is the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education, and MBEA is the Missouri Business Education Association. The conference was sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Croghan gave two one-hour presentations at the conference, combining content and question and answer segments. He talked about sports and entertainment career trends and fundamentals of the field, making recommendations for instructors who already teach a sports/entertainment marketing class and giving advice to those who are considering adding sports and entertainment business classes to their curriculum.
One of the major themes of Croghan’s presentation was articulating Westminster’s mission and history and showcasing our academic offerings, specifically highlighting our unique sports and entertainment business management degree program, which has been built on the strong foundation of our accounting, business, economics, and finance department.
“Our core Westminster business department principles give our students and graduates a competitive advantage,” says Croghan. “That advantage provides them with the ability to move easily from sports and entertainment teams, leagues, and venues to other industries —peripheral companies and industries that sponsor sports and entertainment for marketing and sales purposes such as Gatorade, Nike, broadcast sales, etc.”
Croghan brings 25 years of experience in marketing with the St. Louis Cardinals and business development and sports sales with the Edward Jones Dome and St. Louis Convention and Visitors’ Bureau to his teaching.
Currently, along with directing the Westminster sports and entertainment business management program, Croghan operates the sports consulting firm, Croghan Sports, LLC, which provides strategic planning, sales and marketing guidance, and problem solving to sports teams, stadium and arena operators, conferences, athletic departments, sports commissions, and convention and visitors’ bureaus.
