Colors of Revolution, Art Bombing at Westminster
Trees on campus looking more colorful than usual? In honor of the 2014 Hancock Symposium on the arts, these trees have been art bombed by Dr. Miller’s Westminster Seminar class.
The colorful bands on the tree branches represent the arm bands often worn by protesters, such as the one pictured below, worn by an Egyptian woman at a demonstration (colors of national flag).
Art Bombing is an extension of yarn bombing, which is a movement of creating and exhibiting knitted and crocheted street art in public spaces…. Initially to energize and beautify cold/sterile public places, but more recently to publicize public agenda issues.
Arm bands, with the use of colors and symbols, are worn to protest and publicize various issues. For example, red can symbolize revolution, the radical left, communism, etc. Black arm bands with peace signs and white arm bands can symbolize peace, or protest involvement in a war, etc. …
