Eight Westminster Modern Day Records Broken At CMU Mule Relays

Warrensburg, Mo. – Eight Westminster modern day records were shattered at the Central Methodist University Mule Relays on Friday, April 18. The relays did not keep team scores.

Senior Gus Lyles (St. Louis, Mo. /Webster Groves) broke two of his previously held records. He broke the discus record, replacing it with a 32.28-meter throw, and the shot put record with a 10.91-meter throw. Sophomore Christian Houston (Union, Mo. /Union) broke the hammer throw record by almost 5-meters with a 32.48-meter throw.  Sophomore Bret Robertson (California, Mo. /California) rounded out the field records on the men’s side with a 12th place finish in the javelin throw, throwing 46.37-meters and replacing the modern day record.

Senior Matt Borst (Flower Mound, Texas /Marcus) shaved five seconds off his previously held record in the 5000-meter run. He placed 8th out of 38 and finished in 15:43.29.

On the women’s side, three field records were broken. Junior Amanda Killgore (Festus, Mo. /Crystal City) replaced the triple jump record with a 9.32-meter jump, landing her a 13th place finish. She also broke the long jump record with an 18th place 4.59-meter jump. Sophomore Jen Herndon (Salem, Mo. /Salem) replaced her previously held discus record by 3-meters. She threw 28.66-meters at the relays, placing 20th.

The Blue Jays will round out their season at the Illinois College Open in Jacksonville, Illinois on Saturday, April 26. The Open will also serve as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Invitational.
