Churchill Painting Exhibition Organized by National Churchill Museum on Tour

An exhibition of nine original Churchill oil paintings is on display through March 10 in the Daughtrey Gallery of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI with future touring information to be announced.

The Art of Winston Churchill, as the exhibition has been titled, is organized by the National Churchill Museum at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.

Previously the painting exhibition was displayed aboard the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA where it attracted nearly 300,000 visitors during its seven month run, which ended Jan. 1.

The National Churchill Museum is scheduling future exhibitions of Churchill paintings in South Carolina, Washington D.C. and Palm Beach, FL later this year.

“The National Churchill Museum is committed to promoting the life and legacy of Winston Churchill not only at our historic site at Westminster College but also at other venues throughout the country,” said Sandra L. and Monroe E. Trout Director and Chief Curator Timothy Riley. “Hillsdale College is establishing itself as a leading center for Churchill research and scholarship. This exhibition enhances and underscores our commitment to preserving the life and legacy of Winston Churchill.”

Hillsdale College is the home of the Churchill Project, an initiative to propagate the understanding of Churchill’s vast writings and complete the remaining volumes of The Churchill Documents, a series in the official biography of Winston Churchill by the late Sir Martin Gilbert.  The Art of Winston Churchill exhibition is part of the 2017 events associated with the Churchill Project.

“Winston Churchill began his hobby of painting when he was 40 years old. For Churchill, the art of painting, like the art of statesmanship, is practiced successfully only when the intricate details involved aim toward a fixed purpose. Both arts, if done well, are guided by and reflect timeless principles,” said Hillsdale College President and Churchill scholar Dr. Larry Arnn.
