1st Place Announced at the 1st Annual Winston Churchill Student Speech Competition
The National Churchill Museum, located on the campus of Westminster College, held their 1st annual Winston Churchill Student Speech Competition state finals Monday, February 17. Four middle school students from across the state competed for top honors at the Museum’s first speech contest. Placing first was Kristine Cho, an eighth grade student at Jefferson Middle School in Columbia, Missouri. Beth Joelle Winton, Ph.D. was Miss Cho’s teacher sponsor throughout the competition.
Miss Cho received a Museum t-shirt, certificate, and engraved plaque. The plaque was made for the competition by Blenheim Palace, where Winston Churchill lived. A fallen tree on the property was used for the wood.
Miss Cho also received a special invitation to attend the Museum’s annual Churchill Weekend as an honored guest. At the Brunch, she will give her speech and formally be presented the plaque by Randolph and Jennie Churchill, Winston Churchill’s great grandchildren.
Other finalists and their rankings included: Second Place-Jessica Rood, St. George School, Hermann, MO; Third Place-Tori Weidinger, North Kirkwood Middle School, Kirkwood, MO; and Fourth Place-Riley Lawson, Barnwell Middle School, St. Charles, MO.
