Westminster’s Path Ahead: A Message from Acting President Carolyn Perry

The first time I stepped foot on the Westminster campus was in the spring of 1991 when I came to interview for a position with the English Department—yes, I’ve been at Westminster longer than most of our students have been alive! But I remember thinking what a privilege it must be to live on a college campus, filled with beautiful historic buildings and bright, energetic students. I never dreamed that Westminster would become my home, and also the home of my family—and we have all loved being a part of this great community. While I certainly didn’t seek this post, I will work hard to see what good we can accomplish in the months ahead.

Although we have had a change in leadership, we will not change anything that is fundamental about Westminster. The things you love (and probably a few things you don’t) will endure. Faculty will continue offering outstanding classes, and the student life team will continue creating dynamic opportunities for students to grow—and have fun. Traditions—from the Columns Ceremony to Late-Night Breakfast—will carry on, and we’ll enjoy many more rounds of the pep band’s rendition of the Westminster fight song. We’ll graduate many more students in our traditional academic programs, and soon begin to see the first graduates in our non-traditional programs, as well. Our little campus will remain a vibrant place for students, faculty, and staff alike.

In the next few weeks, I will begin working with the Board as it searches for a new president. I know that what we are seeking is an experienced higher education leader with a proven record, especially in financial management and fundraising, and one who exemplifies the values of our College. I am confident the Board will engage in a thoughtful, solid process that will bring us great results. We will keep you informed every step of the way

In the meantime, the Board has entrusted me with the role of Acting President, and this is no time for us to be standing still. Together we will move Westminster forward, and I am excited about working with each of you. As I have had the opportunity to speak with many of you during the course of the last few days, I was gratified by the warm wishes of support, the deep care for our college, and the sincere interest in turning our attention to the future. We are thankful for the great work that was accomplished over the past few years and eager to build on those successes to create an even brighter future for our College.

I am honored to be your acting president. Thank you for your help, guidance, and support in the months to come.
