Career Service Professionals from Seven Colleges and Universities Hold Roundtable at Westminster College

Engaging alumni in international internships and multicultural counseling and distance learning were just two of the topics discussed last week when twelve career service professionals from seven different institutions of higher learning gathered at Westminster College June 27 to share highlights from career conferences they attended this summer.

Representatives from University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Webster University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Columbia College and University of Central Missouri attended this year’s annual Summer Roundtable, presented by Missouri Career Development Association and hosted by Westminster.

“It was exciting to host the summer round table, which is typically held in St. Louis, here in Mid-Missouri,” says Meg Langland, Director of Career Services.  “Most of the participants commented that it was their first trip to Fulton and how impressed they were with our campus.”

Other topics discussed included assessment and outcomes and creating life-work balance.

Information was shared from three conferences – the National Career Development Association (NCDA) in Long Beach CA, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) in San Antonio and the Global International Conference (GIC) in Toronto.

“The topics shared were all those that we as career professionals grapple with so it was energizing to hear and discuss what the sessions covered at those conferences,” says Langland.

The event began with a networking brunch at Bek’s Restaurant, moved to Westminster’s Greg Richard Resource Center for discussion and ended with an optional tour of campus and the National Churchill Museum.
