#WhyIStayed Domestic Violence Social Activist to Speak at Westminster Nov. 10

Social activist Beverly Gooden will share her message about domestic violence sensitivity, social justice, and the power of storytelling in a lecture in Coulter Science Center Lecture Hall on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Gooden is the creator of the Twitter hashtag, #WhyIStayed, which has become a viral movement to end domestic violence.

“There are so many layers to domestic violence and not just financial, although those are valid,” says Gooden. “But we are talking about human hearts. It’s not easy to leave someone you love.”

Gooden earned a BA in Communications from Hampton University and a MA in Social Justice from Loyola University Chicago. Her story has been profiled on Good Morning America, CNN, TIME, The Washington Post, Mic, HLN, Inside Edition, and more.
