The Clothesline Project: Supporting Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence

Rape and domestic violence statistics are staggering.  That’s why the Remley Women’s Center, along with Westminster Residential Advisors and the Office of Community Engagement and Service Learning, hangs a clothesline of specially decorated t-shirts on the Hill every year – to bear witness to domestic and sexual violence.

One in six women and one in thirty-three men have experienced an attempted or completed rape.  And nearly one in every four women are beaten or raped by a partner during adulthood.  On Monday, March 31, dozens of members of the Westminster community stopped by the JCI to decorate t-shirts for the clothesline to show support for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

The clothesline was hung later that afternoon, and over the next few days, it weathered heavy spring rains and hail storms in an appropriate display of resilience – battered, but not broken.
