Students Wanted: Head Into the Streets for Community Service

Westminster students are urged to register to be a part of the long-standing Westminster tradition of “Into the Streets.”

“‘Into the Streets’ is a chance for you and your group to showcase your group’s commitment to leadership through service,” says Rev. Jamie Haskins, College Chaplain. “The Center for Faith and Service is challenging all of Westminster College to go ‘Into the Streets’ October 23-27. Join in the good work going on in our surrounding Fulton and Callaway community for a full week of off-campus service opportunities.

Groups volunteering to do a service project sometime during the week of October 23-27 must be a minimum of three people, with no maximum number. This group could be an existing group such as a Greek organization, student club, residence hall floor, and honor society or just a group of friends.

Participating groups that log their hours will also be considered for awards. Awards will be given for the highest percentage of participation in a group (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place).

Groups can sign up for a service project they have already selected or they can indicate on their registration that they need help identifying a project.

The EcoHouse/Student Office of Sustainability has already registered to winterize the community garden. Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority plans to walk dogs and clean cages at the Sam and Daisy Grabb Animal Shelter. The African Union has also volunteered, but have not yet announced their project.

Groups who need help identifying a project are encouraged to register early.

Groups wanting to participate in “Into the Streets” should register by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18.
