Second Annual Winston Awards Presented Virtually by Celebrities Through Cameo App

By Madison Ingram

The second annual Winston Awards took place virtually on April 30 with special celebrity guests Tony Hawk, Drake Bell, Jerry Trainor, Chris Harrison, Brian Baumgartner, Bart Johnson, Jonathon Goldsmith and Lance Bass.

Campus Activities Board reached out to celebrities through the application Cameo. Cameo is a video sharing app that allows people to receive scripted video shout-outs from their favorite personalities for a small fee. Celebrities were asked to announce award winners for Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior of the Year. A male and female were each awarded for their individual class.

Students were nominated by their peers for the awards, while faculty and staff voted on students to select a winner. The winners of this year’s awards are as follows:

Outstanding Freshman Female: Payton Bledsoe

Outstanding Freshman Male: Daniel Draves

Outstanding Sophomore Female: Krystal Ramos

Outstanding Sophomore Male: Clay Osceola

Outstanding Junior Female: Abbegayle Sutterfield

Outstanding Junior Male: Ben Peng

Outstanding Senior Female: Madison Loescher

Outstanding Senior Male: Michael Rois

Award winners received a customized shout-out from a celebrity as well as a trophy that will be shipped to the student’s home address. While this format was chosen under extraordinary circumstances, CAB says they may look to use this award format in the future due to the positive response from students.

CAB President Clay Osceola was the host of the awards ceremony that is posted to YouTube for viewing purposes. You can view the ceremony here.
