Students Live in Cardboard City To Raise Awareness of Homelessness

A Cardboard City will appear for one night on the Westminster campus as students live under the conditions homeless people find themselves.

Fifteen percent of all Americans live at or below the poverty level and the students want to call attention to their plight.

The Campus Activities Board is providing all the materials-cardboard, tape and scissors-for the students.  Participants will construct their dwellings in The Quad, the grassy area that is bounded by the freshman residential halls of Sloss, Gage, Marquess, Rice and Scott.  Students can be as creative as they  want in designing their cardboard structure.

Then starting at 9 p.m. on November 21, the students will occupy their cardboard houses and spend the night.

The exercise is a part of the Poverty Week activities taking place at Westminster.
