Moon Landing Expert Joins the 2019 Hancock Symposium Lineup

Few scientific or engineering breakthroughs have stirred the public imagination in the same way as the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. More than 600 million people watched transfixed as Neil Armstrong first set foot on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969.

As the world celebrates the 50th anniversary of this incredible achievement, the Westminster community can look forward to hearing from one of the nation’s foremost experts on the event. As part of the 2019 Hancock Symposium, Professor James R. Hansen — author of the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong — will discuss the extraordinary technological and personal struggles NASA engineers and astronauts overcame to make the moon landing a reality.

The book was turned into the 2018 movie First Man starring Ryan Gosling as Armstrong.

The Westminster History Club will sponsor a showing of the movie in the lead-up to the Symposium.
