Homecoming Pride on Campus and in the Community

Saturday brought to a close one of the most spirit-filled Homecoming Week Westminster College has ever seen.  Although our football team couldn’t pull off the big win for the Blue Jays in the Homecoming game, the activities still generated Blue Jay spirit and pride and brought the College closer to our local Fulton community.

Shannon Baker, a senior from Chillicothe, MO, was elected Homecoming Queen, and Matt Borst, a senior from Flower Mound, TX, was chosen as Homecoming King.  Congratulations to Shannon, Matt, and the entire Homecoming Court.

Alpha Gamma Delta collected the most points and became the winners of the Homecoming Week activities which included a sidewalk chalk event in the Fulton Brick District, the parade, and pep rally.

Part of the success of this year’s Homecoming Week was an increased partnership with the local community.  Molly Dwyer, Westminster sophomore and Homecoming Week chair, felt this increased partnership worked well.

“This year, we wanted to involve the community more in Westminster’s Homecoming events,” said Molly.  “We tried something new and partnered with the Brick District – they helped us make this year’s Homecoming Week a great success and fun for everyone in Fulton, and not just Westminster students.”

Fulton high school cheerleaders and the Fulton high school band along with South Callaway high school cheerleaders performed in the Homecoming parade.  LeRoy Benton, the mayor of Fulton, gave a welcome speech Wednesday before the pep rally.

The Westminster community remained true to the mission during Homecoming Week, taking opportunities for service projects when possible.  At the Friday night TGIF event, over 1,300 cans of food were collected for SERVE, Inc. a Fulton non-profit which operates the food pantry and the Clothes Cupboard.  Food sold at Saturday’s tailgate raised over $200, which will also go to SERVE.
