Alpha Chi Announces New Members and Participates in 2020 Virtual Convention

For the first time in 46 years, the Missouri Delta Chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society at Westminster College celebrated new members virtually rather than in a formal ceremony. The 14 new members were announced in an email to the College community on April 6 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founded in 1922, Alpha Chi recognizes the top 10 percent of seniors and top 5 percent of juniors in all academic disciplines. Westminster’s Missouri Delta Chapter is a 17-time winner of the organization’s Star Chapter Award for its status as one of the nation’s most outstanding Alpha Chi chapters.

Dr. David Jones President of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and Professor of Psychology at Westminster, says members of Alpha Chi represent the best of a Westminster education. “They shine in the classroom and are leaders in Westminster’s many campus organizations and in athletics,” Jones says.

Students Present at Virtual Alpha Chi Convention

A number of Westminster Alpha Chi students participated in a Virtual 2020 Alpha Chi Convention during the first week of April. COVID-19 forced the closure of the physical convention at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, NM, which originally was scheduled for March 19-21.

Students who presented scholarly work are as follows:

  • Abby Beach, ’20
  • Destri Eichman, ’20
  • Jacob Hansen, ‘21
  • Missy Rolseth, ‘20
  • Stacia Schollmeyer, ‘21

Jones says that the student presenters worked diligently on scholarly work that primarily centered on health care. He adds, “The students who presented at Alpha Chi’s virtual convention have done outstanding work examining healthcare issues and the anti-vaccination movement.”

Congratulations to all presenters for their hard work!
