Westminster College: News and Notes from the nest

Business programs at Westminster College reaffirmed by the ACBSP

Westminster is pleased to announce that the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate Degree Board of Commissioners has reaffirmed accreditation of the business programs at the College.

With more than 30 years of promoting excellence in global business program accreditation, ACBSP was the first organization offering specialized business accreditation for all degree levels, from associate to baccalaureate to doctoral degree programs. ACBSP accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the business degrees and programs offered through Westminster meet the rigorous educational standards established by the ACBSP.

Based on the Baldrige Education Criteria for Performance Excellence, ACBSP accreditation evaluates aspects of leadership, strategic planning, relationships with stakeholders, quality of academic programs, faculty credentials and educational support to determine whether the business programs offer a rigorous educational experience and demonstrate continuous quality improvement.

The business programs at Westminster were first accredited by ACBSP in 2014. The institution is required to go through the reaffirmation process every 10 years to maintain ACBSP accreditation.

“Westminster College has shown its commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said ACBSP Chief Accreditation Officer Dr. Steve Parscale. “This reaffirmation of accreditation is evidence that they are committed to maintaining the highest quality business education for their students for the next 10 years, just as they have done since 2014.”

Dr. Linda Webster, Associate Vice President and Associate Dean of Faculty and Academic Operations, explains that Westminster’s reaffirmation extends to the accounting, business administration, finance and sports and fitness management majors.

“Achieving reaffirmation of ACBSP accreditation is a significant milestone for the Department of Business at Westminster College, reaffirming that these majors align with the College’s high educational expectations as well as meticulous standards that are recognized nationwide,” Webster said.

Dr. David Jones, Westminster’s Chief Accreditation Officer and Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Higher Learning Commission, added that the ACSBP standards for accreditation require that the College maintain sufficient educational rigor.

Jones reflected, “We will continue to work to provide our students with a high-quality education so they may be successful in their future business-related careers. This reaffirmation of accreditation truly recognizes the quality of Westminster’s academic programs as well as the College’s faculty and students.”
