Brumbaugh Selected as Intern with Advanced Technology Services
Nickee Brumbaugh, ’21, and Jeff Owens, ’87 BΘΠ, together represent the power of Westminster alumni relations. Owens recently extended Brumbaugh an internship opportunity with Advanced Technology Services (ATS), where he serves as CEO.
The global factory maintenance company based out of Peoria, IL, frequently hires Westminster students as interns. Alumni and former ATS interns Alyssa Johnson, ’17 KKΓ, and Jacob Money, ’18 ΣAE, are now permanently employed by the company.
So impressed by Westminster students’ consistent commitment and work ethic, Owens created the Accelerating Career Experiences (ACE) Scholarship Fund in 2018 specifically for students from the College who successfully complete a summer internship with the company.
Owens believes recruiting Westminster students for internships and the ACE Scholarship Fund is a mutually beneficial way to give back to the College that he says gave him so much. “Helping Westminster and my company seemed like the perfect combination,” Owens said here in a 2019 article introducing the scholarship.
Brumbaugh, a mathematics major from Boise, ID, recently discussed her upcoming ATS summer internship. She adds that she hopes the experience will help solidify her plans to attend engineering school following graduation. Read what she has to say below.
Why did you apply for an ATS internship?
The Honors Program encouraged me to start seeking off-campus experiences. ATS seemingly fell into my lap when I learned about an informational session the company was hosting on campus. As I began to learn more about ATS, I found their internship program to be an instrumental stepping stone in helping me decide what type of engineering I want to pursue after graduation.
What was the interview process like?
The interview process was something I have never been through before, but the Career Center at the Student Success Center was a tremendous help each step of the way. They helped me with my resume and professional appearance, and they helped me prepare for the interview. It was just the push I needed to begin seeing my life in a future and professional sense.
Please describe how visiting the ATS headquarters was a learning experience.
Visiting ATS’ headquarters allowed me to quickly get a sense of the company’s culture and the people who were a part of it. During my interview there, I instantly connected with two individuals who were friendly and truly focused on me getting the most out of my experience.
What are your goals for the internship?
My goal is to begin to explore the real-world applications of different types of engineering and find what I have a passion for. Then when I attend a graduate program, I can use what I learned during my internship to make my coursework specific and valuable. I would like to be committed to ATS long–term and am excited about the possibility a full-time career with ATS after earning my engineering degree.
