Blue Jays Fall To Greenville, 63-76

Greenville, Ill. – The Westminster men’s basketball team fell to Greenville College Saturday afternoon, 63-76. The Blue Jays are now 6-6 overall and 3-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play.

Senior Joe James put the first two points on the board after being fouled just 25 seconds in, but the Panthers of Greenville quickly tied the game and took the lead.

A three-pointer by sophomore Jay Zalis cut the deficit to just one point, 11-12, with 12:48 left in the first half, but the Panthers went on a 8-2 run to take the 20-13 lead. The Panthers increased their lead and heading into halftime, the Blue Jays trailed 27-44.

The Blue Jays were unable to stop the Panthers offensively in the second half. A jumper by James cut the Blue Jays’ deficit to 13 points with 15:20 left in game, but the Panthers answered back with a 9-0 run. Despite their attempts, the Blue Jays were unable to pull out the win and fell 63-76.

Junior Verdis Lee Jr. led the Blue Jays offensively with 14 points. He also grabbed 6 rebounds. Junior Brandon Moore added 10 points to the loss.

The Blue Jays will start their five game home streak on Tuesday, January 14 as they host Fontbonne University at 8:00 p.m. The game will be live streamed here.
