Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Game 1-2 To Fontbonne

The Westminster women’s soccer team held the 1-0 lead heading into the second half of Tuesday night’s match-up, but fell 1-2 to the 4-0 conference opponent Fontbonne University. The Blue Jays move their SLIAC record to 2-2.

A perfectly placed header by Tayisah Pohtos (Ousley) scored the first goal of the game off a corner kick from Eileen Koppy. The Blue Jays held the 1-0 lead throughout the half and into the second half.

The Griffins of Fontbonne scored a goal in the 61st minute to tie the game up. A 20-yard shot by the Griffins hit the top half of the goal, giving them the 2-1 lead with 10 minutes left in the game.

The Blue Jays attempted to tie the game up, but were unable to get a shot in.

Freshman goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey was credited with 6 saves in the loss.

The Blue Jays host Spalding University this Saturday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. as they celebrate their Homecoming Weekend.
