Volleyball Falls To Webster, Looks For Revenge at SLIAC Tournament

The Westminster volleyball team finalized the regular season play with a 1-3 loss to the Webster University Gorloks Wednesday evening. The match had no effect on the Blue Jays since they previously clinched the third seed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, grabbing a spot in the SLIAC Tournament.

The Blue Jays held the 16-10 lead over the Gorloks in the first set, but they rattled back with a 6-0 run to take the 18-17 lead. The Blue Jays were unable to pull the lead back and fell 22-25. A 17-17 set two tie was finalized by a 8-1 Webster run to end the set 25-18. The Blue Jays battled to stay in the match throughout set three and a 7-0 run gave them the 23-20 lead. The Blue Jays finished out the set, 25-20. Webster held the lead throughout the fourth set and won 25-18, winning the match 3-1.

“Tonight we found out what to expect going forward for the remainder of the season. I think the team did a great job of fighting,” said Head Coach Curtis Madson. “We just need to push a little harder to eliminate the runs.”

Freshman Riley Lawrence led the Blue Jays with 20 kills and a .356 hitting percentage. Freshman settle Kayla Reeg had 46 assists and freshman Amanda Kiso finished the night with 6 blocks. Sophomore libero Caroline Will dug 15 balls, followed by Reeg with 13 digs.

The Blue Jays will head to Greenville College this Saturday to get their revenge on Webster in the SLIAC Tournament. The Blue Jays are set to play the Gorloks at 4:00 p.m. Tournament information will be released later today.
