Volleyball Defeats Stephens In Three

The Westminster volleyball team faced Stephens College on Thursday afternoon and defeated them in three (25-15, 26-24, 29-27). The Westminster Blue Jays improve their overall record to 12-10.

The Blue Jays took hold of set one, going on a 8-1 run to give them the 15-7 lead. The Stars of Stephens College were downed 25-15 to end set one.

Set two was a neck-and-neck game that was tied going into the 22nd point. Three kills by sophomore Lexi Collier ended the set with a 26-24 score.

The Stars came out in set three ready to take one off the Blue Jays. After a back-and-forth battle, the Stars took hold of the lead, 18-14 before the Blue Jays rallied back to tie the game at 22-22. The Blue Jays took hold on the 27th point and brought home the match victory with the set three 29-27 win.

Collier led the Blue Jays with 12 kills and finished the night with a .611 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Kayla Reeg has 35 assists throughout the night and added 10 digs to the mix. Sophomore libero Caroline Will has 12 digs.

The Blue Jays will head to Jacksonville, Illinois Saturday, October 26, to participate in MacMurray College’s SLIAC Tri-Match. They will face Iowa Wesleyan at 11:00 a.m. and MacMurray at 1:00 p.m.
